Practice of yoga (sadana)
By Yogacharya B.K.S. IyengarThis conference was marked at the time of the 10th annual conference of Yoga Newspaper, in East Park on September 29, 2005. These notes of conferences relate to its course of yogi, who progresses of the periphery; body until the realization of the distinction enters the conscience (citta, consciousness) and the expert (the SEER) in front of 1600 people.
“At the beginning of my practice (sadhana) the intelligence went at the speed of a snail, my spirit was not able to penetrate across the muscles and the articulations.
After years of a continual practice (sadhana) I started small with small to develop the precision in my observations in order to penetrate at the interior by moving my attention across the muscles and the articulations. I was born in a village withdrawn from the name from Bellur, to approximately 60 km of Bangalore, towards Chennai, in the state of Karnataka. In the south of India. I must much with my parents who gave me birth and life, then that my mother had contracted the influenza at the time of a world epidemic. The destiny wanted that we survive both.
Not only I was born weak, but of the contaminations of the disease like the malaria, the typhoid one or tuberculosis undermined my energy and made me live a life such parasite. Perhaps that these diseases occurred to me such mysterious blessing so that embraces it; It was perhaps a coincidence, but my elder sister married in 1926 Yogacharya Krishnamacharya. It took him seven years to advise me to practice yoga so that I cover health, whereas it knew that I suffered from Periods of diseases.
However it had initiate my young sister and my elder brother.
My sister could not continue because it married and my brother stopped because of the rigorous discipline that no beautiful brother inflicted to him.
It was in 1934, Maharaja de Mysore , sent my brother-in-law to propagate yoga in the north of Karnataka and to return visit has Kaivalyadham with Lonavla, close to Pune. On the way while returning from Mysore it stopped in Bangalore They were the summer holidays, it asked me to remain with my sister until her return. As Mysore was famous for its palates and its superb gardens, I immediately agreed to return to me in Mysore, which for me was a dream. After his return, I wished to turn over has Bangalore, But it asked me to remain, to continue my studies by joining the school of Mysore and to learn the asana, in order to see the beginning of the cure.
The word “ health ” filled me of enthusiasm and I remained it low to learn the asana but also to continue my studies, One day favorable, it called me and, some asana taught me.
When I leaned ahead, my major could not reach my knees. When it initiated me with the asana, I regarded it as my guru. And there remained it all my life. One day one of its favorite pupils, Shri Keshava Murthy which was my companion at Guruji, left the house without anything to say to anybody y never to return. Guruji tried to find it, but into vain. This fact it turned its attention towards me and seriously showed me the asana by teaching me. My guru was known for his strict discipline. Because of that, gradually of the complexes of fear grew in me. Having lost its best pupil, it was interested personally in me and forced me to carry out all different and difficult the asana in one week. It I made them practice in public during its courses. With full knowledge of the facts or not, this proved to be, revolving in my life.
In 1936 Maharaja de Mysore sent it to the north of Mysore to propagate yoga.
As my studies were completed, it took me along with other pupils seniors to give demonstrations. During this voyage, it gave me the chance to direct classes for women. Probably wanted him to sow seeds so that I become later professor.
In 1937, at the request of the authorities of Deccan Rally, my guru sent me to teach for six months in clubs of sports and schools of Pune. Thus the destiny made of Pune my residence.
This responsibility mimed sincere and I started to practice the asana during long hours each day to gain confidence in my teaching.
In 1943, I am Marie with Ramamani. God. Blessed me by binding me has a faithful wife not only in the life May also so that I progress in my practice (sadana).
As I did not have a colleague to raise the errors of my practice I started to teach the asana with my wife to give him the feeling of yoga.
I helped it to adjust his body in the postures so that it is accustomed to the touch of the skin and the flesh in the asana.
Then I showed him how to examine each part of the body in each asana and I started to teach the manners and the means to him of applying the pressures and of the backpressures in order to adjust my body when I needed corrections.
My wife readily agreed to render service to me has each time I called it has the assistance 'it left his work of house to help me to carry out the asanas which did not correspond has my waitings. The interest which it took so that I control this art me A encourages has to progress while fighting to reach the desired alignment of the body And its assistance by application of the good pressures enabled me to reach a state of stability and serenity in the asanas. If my parents were at the origin of my life, it is my guru who my helped to choose a goal in my life, while my wife implied herself and my encouraged to reach a more subtle state of firmness in the asanas.
While I taught, I could note the goods and the bad points of the posture of the students.
They then helped me not only to improve me but also to think my teaching differently. These observations on various bodies gave me time to include/understand the structure of the body, its functions and its constitution; thus providence me A provides advisability’s to work me and time helped me to penetrate subtleties of each asana.
All this with metamorphosed a rough beginner in a mature student until becoming thus a good professor.
Undoubtedly is it by chance which I became a practitioner of yoga whereas to become a professor was my own choice. According to their trade and the structure of their body, the practice which I observed allowed me to learn how to align the bones, the muscles, the articulations, the ligaments, fibers, the tendons and so on, invariably within the framework of each asana”
